What are Private Lessons?

Private lessons are one-on-one tutoring for musicians. It is the best and quickest way to improve musical knowledge and performance skills. With your enhanced skills, you will be able to play more music and that will increase your enjoyment of music. We can help you whether you are learning a new instrument, working to win 1st chair in band, wanting to be a music major in college, or a college graduate. We provide in-person and on-line lessons for beginners to advanced players for trumpet, trombone, and euphonium/baritone.

What to expect?

Lessons are typically once a week at a set time and day. Consistent lessons help to ensure techniques are properly learned. Most skills take many correct repetitions to be engrained. Lessons can be on a different repetition rate, but younger students require frequent reinforcement through regularly scheduled lessons.

Students can expect to work on brass playing fundamentals, etudes, band music, solos, and whatever other music will help them progress. Most lessons also work sight-reading through duets.

Students are expected to practice between lessons to prepare assigned material. Daily practice is best. The more a student practices, the better they get, the more they enjoy music! Students may also need to purchase etude books.

Where are we

We teach out of our home in the Lorson Ranch development on the south side of Colorado Springs (near Fountain). Due to the nature of private lessons, in-person lessons are best. Modeling the instructor is a major part of lessons. Hearing how a professional plays a musical passage is an experience best done live.

How much do lessons cost?

$30 per 1/2 hour. Most younger students start with 30-minute lessons. As students develop, longer lessons are needed to cover the amount of music prepared. 45 minute lessons are $45 and 1 hour lessons are $60. If you refer others, you earn a free lesson per referral. â€‹
